In 2022 we launched an extensive, province-wide public engagement process: 17 consultation sessions (in-person and online) and a survey. The purpose was to get a clearer sense of what issues concern seniors, their families and caregivers. To learn more about our findings click here: What We Heard: Engagement with Seniors, Family Members and/or Caregivers, and Service Providers. As a follow-up action, the Seniors' Advocate committed to continuing these important discussions by holding regular Town Hall meetings with seniors and others who wish to be heard. Please check out our fall 2023 schedule and keep an eye to this page for additional community visits in the winter and spring.
In September 2022, the Office of the Seniors' Advocate began a 4 month public engagement process. This process was an opportunity for seniors, seniors' family members and service providers throughout the province to have their concerns, issues and ideas for improvement heard by the Advocate.
The public engagement process included 15 in-person sessions, 2 virtual sessions, and an online survey. The Advocate is thrilled with the response our Office received for the public engagement process. Over 1,000 surveys were completed, with the vast majority (900+) completed by seniors. As well, nearly 400 hundred seniors attended the in-person and virtual sessions. Given the large sample of seniors engaged through this process, the Office of the Seniors' Advocate has established a very clear picture of the needs and concerns of seniors throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
The information gathered during the process was compiled and released through a report titled What We Heard: Engagement with Seniors, Family Members and/or Caregivers, and Service Providers and shared publically in March 2023. The Office of the Seniors' Advocate will now analyze this information to inform its strategic directions and any required recommendations toward improved services for seniors in the province.
While this formal public engagement process has ended, we always encourage seniors and family members to contact our office to share their experiences, concerns and ideas. You can complete the public engagement form on our website home page under Contact Us – "Give Feedback on Seniors' Issues", email SeniorsAdvocate@seniorsadvocatenl.ca or by phone 1-833-729-6603.
